Sabah name has been in use since before coming to the island of Borneo Bristish again. Change as the British North Borneo and used officially since 1881. Sabah was used again in 1963 after Sabah into Malaysia.

There are many variations of how the name Sabah is obtained. Sabah was once known as 'Sudang' ever recorded in a poem written by the Java Nagaraketagama Prapancha in 1365. Sabah name was first used in the 15th century by merchants who traveled between the island of Sulu and Brunei.

It is also believed Sabah name derived from banana plants called 'Banana Saba. At the present time 'Pisang Saba is known as the "Banana Descending'. Common types of banana growing along the west coast of Sabah. Dialect of the local people who say 'saba' like say 'Sabah' has caused the name Sabah is obtained.

Sabah is the second largest state in Malaysia after Sarawak. Sabah is divided into five administrative divisions namely the West Coast, Part Sandakan, Tawau Division, Inland Division and Division Kudat.

Makanan bagi sesuatu kaum merupakan identiti dan pengenalan bagi sesuatu kaum. Terdapat banyak jenis makanan dalam masyarakat Kadazandusun.
Biasanya kita dapat melihat pelbagai jenis hidangan ini di musim perayaan seperti Pesta Kaamatan yang dirayakan setiap tahun iaitu 30 dan 31 Mei.
Selain perayaan, biasanya suku kaum Kadazandusun yang tinggal di kampung, masih mengamalkan cara masakan atau hidangan secara tradisional ini.
Kita juga dapat melihat dan merasa hidangan seumpama ini pada masa upacara seperti perkahwinan dan majlis lain di adakan oleh suku kaum Kadazandusun.
Sesungguhnya makanan tradisional bagi kaum Kadazandusun ini amat berbeza dari kaum yang lain terdapat di negeri Sabah. Selain makanan ini lazat, sudah tentu ianya juga mempunyai keunikannya yang tersendiri.
Masyarakat Sabah telah dianugerahkan dengan pelbagai jenis makanan. Ini adalah kerana keadaan semulajadi bentuk muka buminya banyak membekalkan sumber pencarian makanan.
Contohnya, laut dan sungai yang dibekalkan dengan pelbagai jenis ikan, udang dan sebagainya, hutan rimba yang ditumbuhi dengan pelbagai jenis tumbuhan liar, herba, buah-buahan dan didiami pelbagai jenis hidupan liar. Masyarakat tempatan Sabah telah memperkenalkan pelbagai jenis makanan tradisi.
Kebiasaan ini diamalkan oleh lebih dari tiga puluh golongan etnik yang mana lebih dipengaruhi dengan cara hidup dan keadaan persekitaran tempat tinggal etnik tertentu.
Masyarakat kaum Kadazandusun di Sabah telah mengamalkan cara pemakanan Tradisi sejak turun-temurun dan masih diamalkan sehingga hari ini. Antara makanan tradisi yang terkenal di kalangan kaum Kadazandusun ialah Hinava, Noonsom, Pinaasakan dan Sup Manuk Lihing. Makanan-makanan ini dapat disediakan dengan pelbagai cara mengikut kebiasaan amalan tradisi Kaum Kadazandusun.
